This is an annual event and our second year managing the Mt Lawley Christmas Festival.
In its seventh year, the Mt Lawley Christmas Festival (‘Christmas Festival’) is one of Perth’s major large-scale Christmas season celebrations. Hosted by St Patrick's Anglican Church working with the City of Stirling, Inglewood on Beaufort, Beaufort Street Community Centre, local schools, businesses and associations.
Festivities stretch along Beaufort Street between Perth College and Second Ave, in Copley Park and at St Patrick's Anglican Church offering a plethora of activities for everyone to enjoy. The festival often attracts 8000 visitors across the day.
Entertainment ranges from water slides, camel rides, paint a car, farm animals, little splash for the toddlers, larger inflatable activities for the big kids, face painting, roving entertainment, and a rave in the park. If families want access to these activities they simply pay $30 for the entire day (covers a family with up to 4 children).
With over 30 eco-friendly food trucks offering a great range of international cuisine and desserts including vegan, vegetarian, Halal, nut-free and gluten-free meal options for the whole family the festival provides a fabulous atmosphere to comfortably enjoy the delicious cuisine on offer. Local cafe/wine bar Trio will be hosting the Trio Festival Bar bringing a piece of Italian lifestyle to Mt Lawley. Lunch and dinner, with aperitivo and live music! And for a bit of Christmas shopping we have a great variety of hand-made makers and artisan markets.
ArtyBrellas facilitate workshops in local schools in preparation for the Children's Christmas Pageant. The Mt Lawley Christmas Pageant starts at 2pm in Copley Park, charming spectators in the park and on the streets with joy and splendour as they parade through the festival led by acclaimed brass band, Junkadelic. The children's artwork is then showcased at 2nd Avenue Plaza.
The main stage showcases a number of performances throughout the day with the inclusion of the Welcome to Country, Indigenous artists and local Perth bands, creating a cultural and inclusive event. We finish the evening on a high with the lighting of the (very tall!) St Patrick's Norfolk Pine Christmas Tree and a dazzling Christmas Carols by Candlelight performance, by local elite music group the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra and chorus and much more!
The traditional Christmas story, increasingly less well-known within the wider Australian culture, is performed at the highest artistic level by WAYJO and vocal performers with chorus. All the event content is intended to reflect different aspects of 'Christmas' – from the historic and religious through to the commercial and modern.
This Festival truly offers value-for-money and aims to be affordable to all the community. If families want access to the rides, they pay $30 for the entire day (covers a family with up to 4 children). Food outlets and artisans will charge for their wares; however, everything else is free. Tickets are also donated to the women's refuge in the city, to ensure that everyone can attend and be a part of the community.
